A new market recap video from The Better Investor series is now available. Our Chief Executive Officer, Jeff Sarti, and Chief Investment Officer, Meghan Pinchuk, had a lot to cover this quarter, discussing everything from key economic indicators to how our investment strategies have performed to our outlook going forward.

In our Q2 market recap, Jeff and Meghan analyze positive signs of a healthy economy: a strong labor market, decreasing inflation, robust consumer spending, and supportive fiscal spending by the government. On the other hand, negative signs include heightened interest rates , which could slow the economy. Furthermore, banks are tightening, corporate earnings remain flat, workers are pressuring employers to pay higher wages, and manufacturing has been contracting for eight consecutive months. Overall, Jeff and Meghan acknowledge the uncertainty around the economy’s direction and stress the importance of adopting a flexible, resilient investment approach rather than attempting to predict market movements.

Regarding investments, Jeff and Meghan express caution about the stock market due to high valuations, especially among big, overvalued technology names. Since we take a diversified approach to stocks, we still have some exposure to those companies but tilt toward quality stocks that are trading at more reasonable valuations. Meghan and Jeff are particularly excited about bonds because heightened interest rates have presented higher return potential. Private lending has also become more attractive as regional banks retrench, giving private lenders the opportunity to step in and make higher quality loans with higher yields.

Finally, Jeff and Meghan reiterate that it is normal to feel anxious in these unpredictable times. To protect the downside, investors should not “hide” from risk but, rather, find smarter risks to take with a variety of diversifying asset classes.
